The Ev. Diakonissenkrankenhaus Leipzig in the Leipzig district of Lindenau is a standard care hospital that belongs to the central German deaconry association edia.con, in which Agaplesion is also involved.

It is the academic teaching hospital of the University of Leipzig . The deaconess mother house , built over a hundred years ago, is a listed building. The hospital has 272 beds.

The beginnings of the Deaconess Hospital Leipzig go back to the year 1891, when at the initiative of the superintendent of the St. Thomas Church Oskar Pank began with the training of nurses in the "Municipal Hospital St. Jacob." The official founding year is 1900, when the deaconess mother house was inaugurated and the hospital opened. The first chief surgeon was Heinrich Braun . With the beginning of the First World War , the house was made available as a hospital .

In 1925 the nursing school received state recognition, and in 1928 a polyclinic building was inaugurated. At the beginning of the Second World War the hospital was handed over as a reserve hospital and in 1945 regular hospital operations were resumed. In 1954 an operation and X-ray building was inaugurated.

After the reunification , the house became the sponsorship of the Ev. Diakonissenkrankenhaus Leipzig gGmbH with the Ev.-Luth. Diakonissenhaus Leipzig eV transferred as sole shareholder. The polyclinic was closed in 1996, and practice branches were set up in the building in 1997. In 1998 the emergency room was reopened .

In 2000, when the 100th anniversary of the Diakonissenkrankenhaus was celebrated, it was merged with the Bethanien Hospital in Leipzig, the first clinic in Saxony . Ev.-Luth has been shareholders since then . Diakonissenhaus Leipzig eV , the Diakoniekliniken Leipzig gGmbH and the Bethanien Krankenhaus Chemnitz gGmbh .

In 2004 the new building of the hospital was inaugurated, which also contains a prayer room (glass design: Matthias Klemm ).

In 2004 the house received the KTQ certification with additional proCum Cert certification for church-supported institutions.

In August 2008 the Ev. Diakonissenkrankenhaus Leipzig gGmbH incorporated into the newly founded edia.con gGmbH as a subsidiary .

structure

The deaconess hospital is divided into a clinic for surgery (with the departments of trauma and reconstructive surgery and general, visceral and vascular surgery ), a clinic for internal medicine , a clinic for anesthesia and intensive medicine , physiotherapy and the emergency room, which is the central rescue service is attached to the city of Leipzig. The visceral surgery department is certified as an intestinal center .

There are also several specialist departments ( gynecology , ear, nose and throat medicine , ophthalmology , urology , angiology and anesthesia) and independent doctors . In the building of the house there is a group practice for radiology with a breast screening unit . Green ladies work in the house .

Connected to the deaconess hospital are the assisted senior citizens' home in the deaconess house , the nursing home at the deaconess house , the short-term care station at the deaconess house and the Bethanien nursing home in Leipzig-Plagwitz .
