Diana Schuler (born April 18, 1981 in Saarbrücken , Germany ) is a German snooker player and marketing director of the World Women's Snooker (WWS).

Career

Schuler started playing pool at the age of 14 in her best friend's aunt's billiards café . She played this for 20 years before switching to snooker after taking a pool break in 2010. In 2013 she was able to win the bronze medal at the European Team Championships. Financially, in contrast to the men's snooker, it is difficult to make a living from the tournament money (the World Cup round of 16 brought her 300 pounds ). So she initially had her own online clothing shop, which she sold in 2014 after 15 years of activity. In December 2014 she moved to Derby , England, where she works full-time as an online shop manager for Villeroy & Boch . Nevertheless, she trains 15 hours a week to improve her style of play and to stay among the world's best professional players. Her trainer was ex-professional David Roe . In 2014 she played her first WWS tournament. She made contact with the then women's world association World Ladies Billiards & Snooker (WLBS) and has been working as a volunteer marketing director since April 2015. The main reason for this was that on Ladies Day in the Crucible Theater no one took care of the marketing of the Women's World Cup due to a lack of staff . The WLSBA's own presentation left a lot to be desired, as it had neither aroused the interest of players nor (future) sponsors. First she had a new website created and professionalized the marketing.

Her training paid off, as she was the first German player to reach the World Cup round of 16 in 2016 and was able to repeat this in Singapore in March 2017. In the same year she organized the second edition of the Paul Hunter Women's Classic and despite this task came back to the round of 16. In October 2017, she came 8th for the first time among the top 10 in the world rankings. In 2018 she won the final of the German Championship for the first time , after having made it to the semi-finals three times.

Others

Since 2016 she has been a qualified "World Snooker Community Coach" by the WPBSA . She is now well networked with professional players like Ronnie O'Sullivan or Mark Selby . She is also committed against racism and homophobia and for gender equality .

While she was able to advance her career in England, obstacles were put in her way back home. The DBU has been struggling with money and functionary problems for a long time. As the best domestic player, she was not allowed to go to the European Championships in Lithuania in 2016 , although the DBU had four places to offer. Schuler was also prepared to pay for this participation out of pocket. She saw this as incomprehensible nomination criteria on the part of the DBU, and even sensed discrimination against women. The reason given by the DBU was that it did not belong to any cadre, as the recently revised statutes prescribe. What is incomprehensible about it is that at that time the DBU did not have any women cadre to which it could have belonged.

“So I am told that I cannot be reported because I am not in a nonexistent squad . This is not just about me. Would the DBU say that there are 4 players who are better than me and send them - no problem. But leaving two starting places unoccupied is, in my opinion, a NO GO in terms of sports funding. "

Diana Stateczny and Jennifer Zehnter, on the other hand, were reported, although they did not belong to any cadre either. There is no senior squad either, and three players have even been registered there. The then reigning German champion was also not nominated. The places not occupied by Germany went to other nations such as Belarus, Russia and Ireland, which could now send 5–6 players. These nations gave ambitious players the opportunity to develop internationally, while Germany obviously hindered their players and thus could not collect any points for future placements and experience.
