Dianne Foster (actually Olga Helen Laruska ; born October 31, 1928 in Edmonton , Canada - † July 27, 2019 in Hidden Hills , California ) was a Canadian actress .

Life

Dianne Foster was born in 1928 under the name Olga Helen Laruska to Ukrainian parents in Edmonton, Canada. At the age of thirteen she began her career as an actress in plays by JM Barrie , Agatha Christie and Orson Welles . At fourteen, Foster moved her family to Toronto and began a radio career. Among other things, she worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and appeared in a radio play by The Adventures of Harry Lime as a narrator, where she again worked with Orson Welles.

Foster moved to London in 1951 and made her film debut in a British film production company that same year. She got her first major role in 1953 in Bad for Each Other on the side of Charlton Heston and Lizabeth Scott . In 1954, Foster was signed to Columbia Pictures . She moved to Hollywood and in the same year played her first leading role in the film noir Drive a Crooked Road as a film partner of Mickey Rooney .

In the following years Foster was seen in several major film productions. In 1955 she played the leading female role of Hannah Bolen in the western The Kentucky Man on the side of Burt Lancaster . In 1957 she was a film partner of James Stewart in the western The clock has run out . In the same year, Foster also played the female lead of Joanna Delafield in John Ford's chief inspector Gideon . She received her last major role in 1958 in The Last Hurray , also a film by John Ford. In 1963 Foster ended her film career with a role in the comedy Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? with Dean Martin .

In addition to her film career, Dianne Foster also appeared as a guest actor in various television series, including 1960 in Bonanza and in Have Gun - Will Travel . Between 1962 and 1965 she appeared in four episodes of Perry Mason . Foster remained active as a television actress even after the end of her film career, before she retired entirely from acting after several appearances in western series such as Big Valley in 1966.

Dianne Foster was married three times and had three children. Her last marriage to the dentist Harold Rowe lasted from 1961 until his death in 1994. The two previous marriages to Andrew Allen and Joel Murcott were divorced.

Foster last lived in California . She died on July 27, 2019 at the age of 90.
