action

The widower Elias Wakefield emigrated from Kentucky to Texas with his nine-year-old son Eli at the beginning of the 19th century in order to venture a new beginning. Elias longs for more space to hunt and a piece of land that no one has set foot before. There's nothing like that in Kentucky anymore. Right from the start, the Frome brothers, former, envious neighbors who are trying to kill him, are on his heels.

During a stopover, Elias is wrongly locked up by a corrupt sheriff . Meanwhile, Hannah, an indebted maid, takes care of the junior. They become friends, and since Hannah also loves the expanse, she helps Elias to escape and joins the two adventurers.

The three of them make the next stop at Elias' older brother Zack. He wants to drive Elias' thirst for adventure out of him and turn him into a capable, sedentary businessman. Elias shows himself understanding and from now on works in his brother's tobacco production. Since he falls in love with Eli's teacher, he puts his emigration plans on hold. "Little Eli" is very disappointed, because for him his dream is about to burst. He runs away and so falls into the hands of the Frome brothers. Elias saves his son from the clutches of the bandits and now decides to continue the journey to Texas with Hannah and Eli.
