Douglas Spencer

Douglas Spencer (born February 10, 1910 in Princeton , Illinois , † October 6, 1960 in Los Angeles , California ), actually William Henry Mesenkop , was an American actor .

Life

Spencer worked as a light double for Ray Milland from the late 1930s . This led to his receiving minor roles in many of Milland's films. At first it was little more than extras and it was almost ten years before he was mentioned in the credits of a film for the first time. He was first mentioned in the credits in 1948 as a doctor in the film noir The Night Has a Thousand Eyes with Edward G. Robinson in the lead role. In the western My Great Friend Shane , he played a supporting role alongside Alan Ladd and Jack Palance . His best known role was the reporter Ned Scott in the classic science fiction film The Thing From Another World . He then played in the B-movie Metaluna IV does not answer and portrayed Harry Kraler in The Diary of Anne Frank . Shortly before his death from the consequences of his diabetes , he played a few guest roles in television series such as West of Santa Fé and Bonanza .

Spencer died on October 6, 1960 at the age of 50 of complications from diabetes in Los Angeles California.
