Desert hostel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Desert Herberg , also called Kaltenherberg, is a deserted village in the district of hostage Winder hamlet Wasser Bern village in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . The settlement was probably abandoned in the 16th century, the reasons for this are unknown.

Geographical location

Nothing is known exactly about the location of the desert, there are not even parcels of land in the district with similar names that suggest the place. The place was probably near the Seeramsmühle on the old country road to the right of the Reichen Ebrach between Wasserberndorf upstream and the church village of Heuchelheim, which today belongs to the town of Schlüsselfeld in the Bamberg district, downstream. Parts of the settlement are now probably built over by the federal highway 3 on the right slope of the valley.

history

Its name refers to the former use of the hamlet. Unlike many other Main Franconian place names, Herberge is not derived from Middle High German , but was already coined in Old High German . The words heri and berga describe accommodation for the army, whereas desolate , from Middle High German, means desolate, undeveloped. The place probably included an inn on the country road and perhaps more courtyards around it.

He was mentioned for the first time in a description from 1504. At that time the scout of the Free Imperial City of Nuremberg rode through the Steigerwald and also came to "to the Kaltenherbrich" at Geiselwind. Presumably there was only a ruin at that time, from 1547 the hostel was verifiably desolate. After 1592 the central description of Burghaslach mentioned the "Wusten, or Kaltenherberg bei Serheim ". "Das Wirthshauß called the Kaltherberg" appeared for the last time in 1665.
