Scientific name
Diaporthaceae
Heck. ex Wehm.

The Diaporthaceae form a family from the order of the Diaporthales .

Classification

The Diaporthaceae were described by Höhnel in 1917, who placed them in the Diaporthales together with the Gnomoniaceae . Wehmeyer already made the family much closer in 1975, but still placed the Valsaceae in the same family. Castlebury et al. (2007) limited the term only to the genera Diaporthe (with the anamorphic genus Phomopsis) and Mazzantia . Finally, in 2008 Barr and Vassiljeva described the genus Leucodiaporthe .

features

A common feature of the Diaporthaceae is the well-developed stroma , embedded in freshly killed wood or in the trunk of the host . The stroma is the plexus of hyphae that is perceived as a supposed fruiting body, but actually only surrounds the tiny, conical fruiting bodies, the ascomata.

In the Diaporthe species the stroma covers several fruiting bodies (Ascomata) and forms a black line in the hardened host tissue. Anamorphic species ( Phomopsis ) form uni- or multiloculate pycnidial stromata, in which hyaline , mostly unseptate conidia are produced on elongated phialidic conidiogenic cells. They often form thread-like beta conidia . Mazzantia species have a stroma that includes only one to a few Ascomata.

ecology

The Diaporthaceae are parasites , but also saprophytes with a wide host range from woody dicots to herbaceous monocots . For example, Diaporthe phaseolorum var. Sojae causes Diaporthe disease in the soybean Diaporthe ambigua , a root cancer on fruit trees belonging to the rose family . Examples of saprophytic lifestyle are Phomopsis occulta on cypress or Phomopsis quercella on dying Eichensämlingen and Phomopsis quercina as saprophytic accompanying mushroom from Fusicoccum quercus , trigger of oak bark Brands .
