Dicyphus globulifer is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 3.5 to 4.1 millimeters long. Species of the genus Dicyphus are usually difficult to identify based on external characteristics, but the color can still be helpful. Dicyphus globulifer has short spurs on its legs that do not arise from black points and their antennae are completely black. The scutellum has pale colored sides. The length of the third antennae is shorter than the width of the head at the level of the compound eyes. The spurs on the rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are the same length as the rails are wide. The species is very similar to Dicyphus annulatus . Males and females are fully winged (macropter). The nymphs are yellowish in color.

Occurrence and habitat

The species occurs in almost all of Europe and also the northern Mediterranean area and east to the Caspian region and eastern Siberia. It is widespread and common in Central Europe.

Different open habitats with different levels of humidity are settled, and places are less often shaded.

Way of life

The bugs suck various carnation plants (Caryophyllaceae), particularly on Leimkräutern ( Silene ) as white ( Silene latifolia ) and the red campion ( Silene dioica ), catchflies ( Lychnis ) and carnation ( Dianthus ).

The adults hibernate. The eggs are laid in May after the winter and the adults die a short time later. The nymphs can be observed mainly in June and July, the adults of the new generation from late July to October. Since adults were also found in June and nymphs towards the end of October, it stands to reason that a second generation per year is possible under favorable conditions.
