action

Josefine had done her work in a factory faithfully for many years when she was laid off one day. Hardly without earnings, to make matters worse, she also falls ill. Eventually, the destitute falls into the clutches of the amoral and depraved former valet Stanislaus, who pulls her deeper and deeper into the swamp. This man soon shows very criminal traits; so he finally sets fire to a pub that belongs to Josefine's former employer, Hans Fennhofer. The still young factory owner's wife is killed in the flames. Thereupon the manufacturer Fennhofer, bowed by grief, kills himself. Josefine's existence ends on the street.

criticism

In Paimann's film lists it can be read: “The subject is very gripping, albeit dark and abruptly ending at the end, but carried out excitingly right up to the last scene, direction and presentation are up to date. The actors in the three main roles can be considered a top performance. "
