The history of Japan after the war and the torn life of a bartender (Original title: にっぽん戦後史マダムおんぼろの生活 Nippon Sengoshi: Madamu Onboro no Seikatsu , dt "The history of Japan after the war: the life of Madam shabby.") Is a Japanese film by Shohei Imamura from the year 1970 .

action

This is a documentary that was shot in black and white : Imamura interviews a bar owner of about forty. First she talks about her personal failures, both professionally and personally. After the end of the Second World War , she entered into a relationship with an American occupation soldier. Meanwhile, old newsreels are running in the background that contradict the stories of the woman.

criticism

"A tiring attempt to show that time events are assessed individually and how different their meaning for the individual and their place in history is."
