Die Herberge is a German short film by Ysabel Fantou from 2017 . The film is based on a true story in which a retired couple stops at a former tavern while hiking, is entertained and only later realizes that it is an accommodation for asylum seekers. The story received nationwide attention. The film was u. a. financed by a crowdfunding campaign at Startnext .

A Swabian pensioner couple is on a hiking holiday in Bavaria. You get lost looking for a restaurant and end up in a former country inn. A strange place. The pensioners are insecure. For good reason: the inn is now a refugee home. The pensioners do not notice this at first, because they are well catered for. When the guests ask for the bill, it becomes clear that it's not hospitality, but hospitality. The strange feeling gives way to openness and a friendly approach. And the chance encounter becomes an impulse to start walking together. As a farewell, the refugees show the Germans the way.
