The Knapp family
The Knapp Family is a mini-series broadcast on German television in 1981 . It had a total of five episodes of about 95 minutes each. The director was Stephan Meyer , who shot from his and Eckhard Henscheid's manuscripts. It was first broadcast on November 14, 1981. The outdoor shots were shot in 1981 in Duisburg-Homberg and Dinslaken .
The individual episodes were produced by WDR and broadcast in the evening program on ARD. As part of the history festival: WDR shows "The Ruhr Area in Film" , the series was repeated by WDR 2000 in the 3rd program.
In 1982 Stephan Meyer and Norbert Kückelmann received honorable recognition from the Adolf Grimme Prize for the first part. For the fourth and fifth parts, Maria Neocleous , Stephan Meyer and Jörn Klamroth received the Adolf Grimme Prize with silver in 1983 .

The Knapp family is a family of miners from the Ruhr area . Mother Elfriede Knapp (Rosel Zech), mother of four children and her husband Paul (Eberhard Fechner), miner and hobby poet, want to celebrate three weddings after 25 years of marriage. First her own silver wedding , then that of daughter Roswitha (Verena Reichard), who is to marry her friend Bernd (Martin Sperr), with whom she lives, and finally daughter Dietlinde (Christiane Leuchtmann) is to marry the Greek Wassili. Paul is happy not to be bothered because he can devote himself to his writing. But all wedding plans seem to vanish into thin air, because there is a threat of a foreclosure auction or the demolition of their home. The family threatens to break up. The father falls in love with the librarian , the mother visits the harness racing track to bet. Elfriede Knapp wants to sell the house in the meantime to a team owner, the mining village to a smart set -Wohnviertel want to remodel. They plan a hunger strike . After numerous events, Paul managed to unite the other residents in an initiative and together they save their apartments.

The series is based on a true story. When two thirds of the Rhine Prussian miners ' settlement was demolished at the end of the 1960s , the residents successfully defended themselves in a citizens' initiative in Duisburg-Homberg against the final demolition and foreclosure of their houses and properties. Since 1985 they have been managing their houses in a housing association called Rheinpreußensiedlung eG .
