Die Kochprofis (full name: Die Kochprofis - use at the stove ) is a German-language docu-soap of the TV station RTL II . Two to three professional chefs support restaurants suffering from economic problems and try to open up new perspectives for them. In October 2015, the chefs went on air with their 300th edition.

Structure of a program

Phase 1 - test meal

At the beginning of each broadcast, the restaurant is presented in a video. The cooking professionals are shown watching and discussing the video while driving in their conspicuously covered minibus. The final setting of this part of the story arc is showing the arrival of the chefs on site in the team bus. After a brief greeting in the restaurant, the chefs analyze the menu including the sample meal. They usually vary in their orders between meat / fish dishes, starters and desserts. The dishes are assessed for their craftsmanship and taste, and the performance of the kitchen is tested when processing a large number of orders. After the tasting, the professional chefs go into the kitchen and confront the kitchen crew and / or the restaurateurs with their assessment.

Phase 2 - assistance in the kitchen

After they have got a first overview, the cooking professionals deal with the previous kitchen process and condition and then try to practice new structures, processes, dishes, etc. with the kitchen team.

Phase 3 - closing dinner

At the end of each program, there is a special “new beginning” meal. Due to the popularity of the professional chefs, the restaurant is usually well attended here. At the end of each episode, the cooking protagonists of the show leave the company with their traditional “The cooking professionals are out”. For the new professional chefs, the closing ritual has been changed so that they present the innkeepers with a picture with an autograph in the frame. Should the professional chefs be convinced that their tips have been accepted and will be implemented in the future, the photo will be marked with a red "checked" stamp and is handed over with the words "You are checked". This award is sometimes refused and then the professional chefs say goodbye with best wishes for the future. During the credits, there is usually a brief review of what has changed for the restaurateurs between the shooting and the broadcast of the program.

Reshuffles

In May 2009 it became known that the original chefs had left RTL 2 in a dispute. They switched to the station VOX , with which they produce a similar program under the name Die Küchenchefs . The broadcast started on October 25, 2009.

In July 2009 Frank Oehler, Mike Süsser, Oliver Mik and Andreas Schweiger were announced as successors. Oliver Mik left the program in November 2009 and was replaced by Ole Plogstedt on September 7, 2010. For a while, they were advertised by RTL 2 as cooking professionals - The Next Generation (German: Cooking professionals - The next generation). Since the start of the program Die Küchenchefs on October 25, 2009 on VOX, in which the original chefs pursue an almost identical concept, RTL 2 has been promoting its chefs for example. T. as Die Kochprofis - The Original . However, the official title of the show remained unchanged.

Mike Süsser left the chefs at the beginning of 2014 and was last seen on March 13, 2014 in episode 242. Süsser's successor was Nils Egtermeyer, who was born in Rheine in 1983 and has been head chef at the Hamburg restaurant Jellyfish since April 2012 . He has been strengthening the professional chef team since May 2014 in new episodes that were broadcast on RTL 2 from September 2014.

In April 2017, after seven years, Ole Plogstedt ended his work with the professional chefs in order to devote himself to new tasks. RTL 2 took his departure as an opportunity to change the concept of the program. For example, two of the RTL 2 cooking professionals each receive support from a prominent guest chef. In Ole Plogstedt's farewell sequence, this was the Swiss cook Meta Hiltebrand .
