Die Ratten is a German silent film by director Hanns Kobe with Emil Jannings , Lucie Höflich , Eugen Klöpfer and Marija Leiko in the leading roles.

This 1921 film is the first in a series of cinema and television films based on Gerhart Hauptmann 's play of the same name , which premiered on January 13, 1911 in the Lessing Theater in Berlin .

In 1955 Robert Siodmak filmed the material again with Heidemarie Hatheyer , Maria Schell , Curd Jürgens and Gustav Knuth and won the Berlinade Golden Bear .
