action

Billie van Santen is a wild girl through and through: raised in the Argentine pampas, she can ride, shoot and curse like a boy, but she lacks any kind of culture or ladyliness. This should change, thinks her father Thomas van Santen, a wealthy cattle breeder, and confides her to a childhood friend from Berlin who is currently visiting van Santen's Hacienda. Thomas asks him to take Billie to Europe, where the boyish tomboy at a girls' boarding school is finally to be shaped into a young lady. But Billie cannot be molded and resists all attempts at education. On the contrary: she instigates a revolt with other girls and plans to found a kind of girls' republic with them, in which the lords of creation have nothing more to say.

When Billie shows off the skills she learned in Argentina as a lasso and knife thrower in a circus performance, she is promptly thrown out of the girls' boarding school, since such behavior is not at all appropriate for a young lady, according to the school management. Thereupon Billie begins to implement her plan of her own young girl state: The "Republic of the flappers", proclaimed on a Mediterranean island, is born, the necessary financing is made possible by means of a bank robbery with a "wild west" touch by Billie. Men have absolutely nothing to report in this girls' state, so it is decided. Soon more and more girls join the boarding school who are tired of male rule.

One day a young man named Robby shows up. He was sent from Berlin to the sunny south to research the whereabouts of the girls who had disappeared from the boarding school. This Robby is a real sunshine, and since the world is also boring without men, the hearts of the young women immediately fly to him, even if they initially arrest him as their personal prisoner. Billie cannot resist Robby's charm either, and together with him, the flappers from which the title is based can even win the upper hand in a fight with gun smugglers. Finally, the patriarchy is restored, in which the girls submit and return home to their parents. Finally, Billie also submits, in which she wants to marry the charmer Robby.
