Fritz Maurischat
Artur Georg Fritz Maurischat (born April 27, 1893 in Berlin ; † December 11, 1986 in Wiesbaden ) was a German set designer .
Life
From 1907 to 1910 Fritz Maurischat trained as a stage painter at the Berlin company Nikolai, Janowitz & Co. From 1910 to 1914 he worked on theaters in Dresden. During the First World War he served as a soldier and was most recently a non-commissioned officer.
After the war he found a job as an equipment consultant for the department store chain Hermann Tietz . From 1922 he worked for the film, where he carried out the designs of established set designers. From 1926 he was responsible for the design himself, but Maurischat often worked with other film architects. In addition, he created the decorations for the variety theater "Die Gondel" in Berlin.
As a competent specialist, he was used by a wide variety of producers, he cooperated with directors such as Frank Wysbar , Luis Trenker , Detlef Sierck and Herbert Selpin . In the anti-British propaganda film Titanic , the trick-skilled Maurischat effectively staged the sinking of the giant ship.
After the end of the war he traded in old materials for reconstruction for a while, until he was able to return to film in 1948. He also worked as a set designer for the Theater in der Josefstadt and the Renaissance Theater . Since 1920 he was married to Anna Lilienthal.
