Die Retter-Ritter (in the original: The Big Knights ) is an animated series produced in England by Neville Astley and Mark Baker for the British television BBC1 in 1999 , which was also shown several times on German television from October 2000, most recently from January 31, 2004 to March 20, 2004 in the children's channel . She is characterized by her loving style and her bizarre, dry sense of humor with a strong British twist. The series consists of 13 individual episodes, each about 10 minutes long. Despite the brevity of the episodes, a closed story is always told with lots of funny ideas that not only children can have fun with, but are also highly entertaining for adults.

action

The stories are about the adventures of the two great knights Sir Boris and Sir Morris. Soft core in an iron shell with a heart made of gold, this is how the knights can be characterized. They are incredibly strong and brave, but also very good-natured and pretty stupid. The rescuer knights fight vigorously against the problems that they often cause themselves and sometimes increase the chaos.

The savior knights are at home, together with their pets, who are also equipped, and the fairy godmother in the house, the castle keeper bodywife, in a castle in the land of Borovia, which is ruled by King Otto. He has two lovely daughters, Princess Lucy and Princess Loretta, who are very fond of the Savior Knights.

In the land of King Otto there are common dragons, witches and trolls . The capital is a small provincial town called Borodzo. There is a huge gold clock on which a large part of the tax money was spent, which the king in his inability could not prevent. The inhabitants are rather small in stature, the population density is low and the television is black and white . The economy is doing badly and the army is mostly made up of Sir Boris and Sir Morris. Good prerequisites for many heroic deeds of the Savior Knights, even if it seems that life in Borovia will be a little harder than it already is.

main characters

  • Sir Boris - the greatest swordsman in the world. Handsome, brave, honorable, sincere, and not quite as stupid as his brother Sir Morris.
  • Sir Morris - not the greatest swordsman in the world, but the most enthusiastic. Very stupid, but always with the best of intentions. He wears bronze armor and glasses.
  • Sir Horace, the dog -loyal hunting dog of Sir Boris, is equipped with armor for the pet and has a very fine sense of intelligence.
  • Sir Doris, the hamster - is Sir Morris's pet, also with armor. He's a bit snappy and greedy and obviously has an eating disorder with a preference for bicycles.
  • King Otto - is King of Borovia and a single parent. He has two daughters, Princess Lucy and Princess Loretta, who manipulate him mercilessly. His attempts to modernize the country often fail because of the benevolent intervention of the savior knights.
  • Princesses Lucy and Loretta - are easy to inspire and always keen on adventure. They are great admirers of the Savior Knights.
  • Queen Melissa - is queen of the neighboring country Moridia and incredibly rich. Rumor has it that she was previously married to King Otto. Her vast fortune is a constant source of envy and inferiority on the part of King Otto.
  • Sorceress Schimmelfee (Sorceress Abigail) - is the sorceress employed by Queen Melissa.
  • The body woman (Mrs. Ethel Minion) - is the domestic servant of the savior-knight, without whom they would be in a fix.
  • The sisters (Sisters Faith, Hope & Charity) - are the teachers and guardians of the princesses. You are always a little nervous when the Savior Knights are out.
  • Magician Zappendust (Wizard Zabobon) - is a rather incompetent representative of his guild and is thousands of years old. He never seems to have washed during this time.
  • Professor von Proton - is a brilliant, but totally crazy scientist. In his inventions, safety is one of the subordinate criteria. It can happen that the country gets a rain of pig manure.
  • Sir Kniggebein (Sir Kiftsgate) - is one of the kind of knight who knows the difference between bowing to a duke or a count , but is otherwise completely unsuitable for the traditional tasks of a knight such as fighting dragons and fiends .
