The Sons of Eilaboun is a documentary by the Palestinian filmmaker and artist Hisham Zreiq .

The film tells of a massacre committed by the newly formed Israeli army under the code name Operation Hiram in 1948. The massacre was committed in the village of Eilaboun , which lies in Galilee between Nazareth and the Sea of Galilee . 14 men were killed in the massacre, twelve of them were executed. The residents have been expelled to Lebanon and become refugees. Eventually the villagers were able to return secretly.

Summary

The film begins with Melia Zreiq (an old woman from Eilaboun). She says: I hope God will bring peace to this land and people will have a good life together. I hope there will be peace. This is followed by a montage of archive images of the Arab-Israeli war of 1948 , images of refugees, soldiers and destroyed tanks and vehicles.

Ilan Pappe gives a historical introduction to the conflict and historical background that led to the events of Eilaboun. He presents historical facts with historical documents. He speaks of the "Dalet" plan, a plan drawn up by David Ben-Gurion and the Haganah leaders between autumn 1947 and spring 1948. Ilan Pappe explains the plan and how it was carried out. On October 30, 1948, the Israeli army reached Eilaboun at around 5:00 a.m. The army led the residents of Eilaboun to the main square of the village. 17 young men were selected; five of them were taken as human cover, twelve were killed in groups in different places. This happened after the rest of the villagers were deported to Lebanon after walking for 5 days . According to a report by the UN peacekeeping forces, Israel was forced to allow people to return.
