Die Wache is a German crime series that was first broadcast weekly on the German private broadcaster RTL from 1994 to 2006 . The last episode was filmed back in 2003, but RTL's continued broadcasting was stretched as long as possible.

action

The series describes typical (tragic to comical) stories in a German police station. In this area, located on Cologne's Brauerstraße, the police and criminal investigators work side by side under an inspection manager. The head of the inspection is initially Police Councilor (later Chief Police Officer) Karl Schumacher. This is followed by Chief Police Officer Werner Krause, who in turn is replaced by Chief Detective Marianne Stockhausen ( Karin Schröder ). After Stockhausen's departure there is no longer a new head of inspection. This function is mentioned several times in the following seasons, but no longer appears.

The head of the service group was initially police superintendent Hans Maybach ( Hans Heinz Moser ), who later retired. His successor was Chief Police Officer Franz Werner ( Nikolaus Neureiter ). The last duty group leader was police chief inspector Ulf Schelling.

The management of the Kripo consisted of:

  • Detective Inspector (later KOK) Theo Severing, ( Axel Pape ) (1994–1996, until episode 52)
  • Criminal Superintendent Beatrice Köppen, ( Anja Freese ) (1996–1998, episodes 53–94)
  • Chief Detective Eva Faber, ( Irmelin Beringer )
  • Chief Detective Nina Kaiser, ( Dana Geissler ) (1998-2000)
  • Chief Inspector Renee Engels, ( Tanya Neufeldt )
  • Chief Detective Frank Fischer, ( Leon Boden )

Temporarily (from 1996 to 1998) there was also an ETK team (Einsatztruppkommando) that was responsible for undercover operations. It was under the direction of Chief Detective Jürgen Pfeiffer ( Uwe Kockisch ). This team worked independently and was not part of the security police service group, nor was it subordinate to the Kripo service group. Pfeiffer reported to Stockhausen and the public prosecutor Römer. His team included the police chief van Eck and police chief Ehrhard ( Hans Heller ).

Locations

In Cologne's Theodor-Brauer-Strasse in the Deutz district there was never a police station, it was only located there by the script. Today's police station 5 is, however, in geographical proximity. The Wache's studio building is located on Waltherstrasse in the Dellbrück district . The locations in the city from Ehrenfeld to Mülheim to Leverkusen are far too large for a single inspection . In this way, the series gives a good local historical perspective on Cologne in the 90s.

Trivia

  • The series is a German adaptation of the successful British series The Bill , which was broadcast on the British private broadcaster ITV from 1983 to 2010. Another German-speaking branch is SOKO Leipzig . While The Bill had 2400 episodes, Die Wache only achieved just over a tenth of this episode number.
  • There are drastic changes in the line-up. B. from episodes 53, 69, 95 and 120.
  • The police officers Brause ( Harald Kempe ) and Yener ( Francesco Pahlevan ) investigate the following Unwanted visit in the Stadtklinik series .
  • The series was canceled by RTL due to poor ratings. The last episode ends with the dissolution of the guard.
