Die Wunderwelt der Technik is the fifth music album by the German minimal electro band Welle: Erdball . It was released for the first time on March 25, 2002 and instantly reached first place in the German Alternative Charts (DAC) and also entered the German album charts .

The follow-up to Der Sinn des Lebens (1998) was originally based on the working title The Upper Ten Thousand , but the band quickly decided on the concept album Die Wunderwelt der Technik . This album, as the name suggests, deals with technical achievements that have a certain mystique and history to them. On the one hand, the album contains real love songs for perfect products, such as the Commodore 64 , the VW Beetle , the Super 8 camera or the telephone W-48 , but on the other hand also criticism of the dark side of technology, in the form of Contergan , video games or the Starfighter F-104G .

The band emphasizes the intense research they put into the album. Quoting from an interview with Honey: “... our research on the individual songs, which not only consist of a cursory look at the Internet, but really goes into detail. So we sat B. in the Starfighter, spoke to Starfighter pilots who were still alive, had BMW explain the insufficient hydrogen fuel cell engine to us, shot our Super 8 film on the Super 8 medium, among other things, and projected it onto the screen in the broadcasting house, contact thalidomide victims, informed us about the Transrapid, the Apollo 11 mission ... But we also see it as a matter of course to get extensive information, because there are already enough people who open their mouths due to lack of information and little idea . "

The album was first released on March 25, 2002 as a CD and limited as a double CD in an elaborately designed digipak. The other CD in this version contains four more songs, the music video for Super 8 , a screen saver and C = 64 software. In spring 2005, the album was also released as a (two-sided) picture LP, especially at the request of the listeners' club. The vinyl record was strictly limited to 500 copies, 250 of which were released in Germany and 250 in Sweden, another stronghold of the band. This record also offers the previously unreleased song Das Sternenkind as a bonus for the first time . After Expanding Horizons (2004), this was the second album by Welle: Erdball that was released on vinyl.

In order to bridge the time until the album was released, a total of three lavish maxi CDs were released in 2000 and 2001. These, Starfighter F104G , VW Beetles & 1000 Days and Super 8 were each released as a standard CD, as well as limited versions that offer extras such as metal tags or real autograph cards. These discs also contain numerous popular songs by the group that did not fit into the concept of the album. Music videos were created for the songs Starfighter F-104G and Super 8 , which could also be seen on German music television. The VW Beetle video was ultimately discarded. Excerpts from it can be seen in the video for Super 8 .

Interestingly enough, Die Wunderwelt der Technik offers a hidden track , which is listed as song 0 on the back of the CD. The song Funkready is hidden in the minus area of the CD. The two titles The conversation on the pulse of time offer, embedded in a fictional radio broadcast, a radio play that features an interview between Honey, in the role of Dr. G. Linde and Ecki Stieg .
