action

Marianne Lüdcke's three-parter tells the story of the friendship between the two youngsters Joachim, known as “Schocker”, and “Richy”, who live with their families in a poor settlement on the outskirts of West Berlin. Problems with parents and friends, alcoholism and unemployment determine their everyday lives. They dream of one day being able to break out of this milieu and the social misery - to do “The Big Flutter”.

Schocker would like to work as a truck driver one day and tries to run off "in the direction of Italy" with the help of an Italian boat worker named Mario. He generally wants to adapt to his life situation and also manages to graduate from school, but due to his origin and the reputation of the settlement, his wish for an apprenticeship as a car mechanic cannot be fulfilled.

Richy, on the other hand, does not care about school, he even sits down once. He passes the time with little rip-offs and dreams of a future as a rock guitarist. Ultimately, Richy also longs for harmony in his life, but his social situation and his relationship to his alcoholic, violent and choleric father keep him off the "right" path.

Another key figure is Schocker's friend Elli Gruen. She stands between the two young men. On the one hand she is the one who tries again and again to keep shockers away from Richy, on the other hand she is obviously secretly wanted by Richy. His nickname "Knackarsch" comes from him.

The story ends with the arrest of the friends after Richy initiated, spontaneously executed and unsuccessful robbery on a jewelry store in Berlin's Europa-Center . During the crime, Richy kills the jeweler in an affect.

criticism

“The film produced for television received a lot of media and audience attention at the time. The director Marianne Lüdcke was careful not to offer cheap solutions to the problem of homelessness and instead promoted understanding for these people in her differentiated presentation. Your film was made in close cooperation with the author Leonie Ossowski , who as a social worker brought her many years of experience with this milieu to books and films ”.
