The Funny World of Animals is a 1974 South African animal film directed by Jamie Uys .
action
The film describes the fauna of the African Namib Desert , the Okavango Basin and the Kalahari . For example, you can see the animals of the desert looking for food and choosing a partner, weaver birds building community nests and lions taming their rebellious offspring. It also shows how a courageous mother duck saves her offspring from a hyena by pretending to be injured and thus attracting the hyena's attention. Ostriches , too, are not only busy with the bridal show, but also with protecting the newly hatched offspring from the people living in the desert. The mouthbrooders, on the other hand, place their offspring in the protective mouth in case of danger.
After enjoying the fermenting fruits of the marula tree , various animals feel as if they are foggy, while the female hornbill can be walled into a tree cavity to raise the offspring. You can also see people from the San people gathering food and teaching their children. To search for water, for example, a monkey is tied up until it is thirsty and runs to the next water point, revealing its location. Finally, the film shows how animals suffering from a dry season are redeemed by a downpour.

Reviews
“An informative film about the animal world in the deserts of Africa, which, in addition to excellent recordings, contains interesting behavioral studies. Not a documentary in the strict sense, but an amusing entertainment film. Worth seeing despite some lengths. "
Sequels
In addition to this film, four sequels are available on DVD, each of which, however, is significantly shorter with a length of around 50 minutes.
