Diego is an indie rock / new wave band from Karlsruhe, founded in 2005 .

history

Diego was founded in Karlsruhe in 2005. In 2006 the band recorded eight songs, which appeared on June 1, 2007 on a self-titled EP via Rookie Records . In April 2008 the first album Two was recorded, which was released on October 31, 2008 on Noisedeluxe Records. Plattentests.de writes: "Tender melancholy breaks with longing hope, tearing melodies fall over backwards and hit lines up seamlessly with hit." The Sonic Seducer speaks of "cool elegance".

From February 2010 the band recorded the second album Gold together with producer Kurt Ebelhäuser . It was released on September 24, 2010 on Unter Schafen Records. Intro calls it “overall a step forward”, but criticizes that “Diego ends up sinking back into arbitrariness, storing too few characteristic features and weaving too few rough edges.” Sonic Seducer , on the other hand, notices the increased commitment the bass and speaks of post-punk "with busy vocals and twirling guitar", which is rare in the German music scene.

At the end of 2011 the two founding members Drazan Dodik and Christian Fluri left the band. The remaining three band members decided to take a little break, but not without announcing a new album for the end of 2013.

Since the end of 2006 Diego have played over 100 concerts in Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland.

style

Diego play indie rock with New Wave influences and are often compared to bands like Joy Division , Editors and Interpol . In the case of album Two, these similarities even led to the band being repeatedly accused of plagiarism by critics .
