Jere Hutcheson
Jere Hutcheson (* 1938 in Marietta / Georgia ) is an American composer and music teacher.
Hutcheson studied at Stetson University with Frances Buxton , Louisiana State University with Helen Gunderson , Michigan State University with H. Owen Reed and at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood with Gunther Schuller and Ernst Krenek . Since 1965 he has taught composition at Michigan State University .
He has received grants from the Guggenheim Foundation , the Berkshire Music Center, and the Vermont Composers Conference, and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts , Michigan Council for the Arts, and Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund for Music . In 1976 the National Music Teachers Association named him Distinguished Composer of the Year . In addition to more than 100 compositions, Hutcheson a. a. the two-part textbook Musical Form and Analysis: A Programmed Course (1972).
