Diemut R. Theato (* 13. April 1937 in Kleinröhrsdorf , Dresden ) is a German politician of the CDU and interpreter . She was a member of the European Parliament from 1987 to 2004 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Berlin (West) , Theato completed a one-year stay in England with studies and exams for foreigners at the University of Cambridge . From 1956 to 1960, Theato then studied English and Portuguese at the Interpreting Institute at Heidelberg University, specializing in law . During her studies she was on study visits to England, Portugal and France. From 1960 to 1987 she worked as an interpreter and translator. After her marriage and the birth of her two children, she worked as a freelance translator and conference organizer.

She lives in Neckargmünd-Waldhilsbach .

Political activity

In 1977 Diemut Theato was elected chairwoman of the Rhein-Neckar Women's Union . From 1979 to 1987 she was a member of the CDU state executive committee of the Baden-Württemberg Women's Union. From 1981 to 2001 she was deputy district chairman of the CDU Rhein-Neckar. From 1981 to 1989 she was a member of the district executive of the CDU North Baden . From 1981 to 1992 she worked in the education commission of the women's section Europe of the CDU / CSU (European Women's Union). From 1985 to 1990 she was district chairwoman of the Europa-Union Rhein-Neckar. In 1987 Diemut Theato moved to the European Parliament for the resigned Wilhelm Hahn . She was a member of the EPP Board of Directors and was a member of the Budget Committee and Chair of the Committee on Budgetary Control from 1994 to 2004.

From 1989 she was a member of the state board of the CDU Baden-Württemberg, from 1991 deputy state chairwoman.

From 1975 to 1987 she was a member of the Waldhilsbach local council, from 1980 to 1987 she was mayor.

Other activities

From 1980 to 2001 Diemut Theato was chairwoman of the DRK local association in Waldhilsbach and a member of the administrative committee of the Neckargmünd social station . From 1991 to 2007 she was chairwoman of the DRK district association Rhein-Neckar / Heidelberg. Thanks to their initiative, a partnership agreement between the DRK and the women's and children's clinic in Timisoara / Romania was concluded.

She is the Vice-President of the Mérite Européen Foundation .
