Waldhilsbach is a district of the city of Neckargemünd in the Rhein-Neckar district in the north of Baden-Württemberg and is located in the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park .

history

Waldhilsbach is probably one of Gauangelloch's founding of the Worms diocese and was probably one of the last clearing settlements on the Königstuhl . The place, originally just called "Hilsbach" and located in the valley of the stream of the same name that flows into the Elsenz , was first mentioned in 1312 as Hulsbach . The place name was occasionally expanded to "Waldhilsbach" as early as the 16th century - to distinguish it from Hilsbach near Sinsheim - and this name became official in the 19th century.

Around 1400 the Landschad von Steinach ruled the town, which in 1414 was sold to the brotherhood of the Heidelberg court. In the first half of the 16th century, the place was assigned to the Electoral Palatinate Unteramt Dilsberg. In 1803 the place came to Baden , where it was an independent municipality until it was incorporated into Neckargemünd in 1974. Although the land was owned by the local farmers and was only paid for with low interest compared to the rulers, the small area of the town's own delimitation prevented prospering development, so that the town remained an agricultural and forestry village for centuries Many inhabitants in the 19th century tried to escape their poor conditions by emigrating. The last forest in the area was cleared in 1855.

Waldhilsbach was already a commuter community before the Second World War, as the agricultural areas of the district and the forest work in the Heidelberg city forest did not offer a sufficient livelihood. This development continued later when Waldhilsbach took in around 200 displaced persons . Due to construction and development measures, the community was already heavily in debt in the 1960s, despite the emerging tourism. On January 1, 1974, in connection with the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg, it was incorporated into Neckargemünd.
