Neckarhäuserhof is a district of Mückenloch located on the southern bank of the Neckar in the Rhine-Neckar district in the north of Baden-Württemberg . Since the incorporation of Mückenloch in 1975, it has belonged to the city of Neckargemünd .

history

The place goes back most likely to a donation of the Neckarhausen court from the Worms Bishop Konrad von Steinach to the Cistercian monastery Schönau from the year 1152. At that time, pasture farming and arable farming were practiced on the southern side of the Neckar. There was also a small fortification ("Burgstädel") above the Finsterbachtal , the small remains of which can still be seen today. In 1459, a legal dispute between Mückenloch and the Lords of Schönau is known about the use of pastures and the storage of wood.

In the past, the quarrying of the adjacent red sandstone , which could be cheaply transported by water, was of economic importance . The term Wiswesser Hof or Wiesenwässer Hof , used in the 18th century, most likely comes from the hereditary tenant who cultivated the land on the southern bank of the Neckar. The place with this name is still recorded on maps in 1798.

In the 19th century, Neckarhäuserhof expanded further due to the establishment of more businesses and the establishment of a ferry connection to neighboring Neckarhausen . Although officially part of the Mückenloch district, the focus was more on the neighboring Neckar towns and therefore asked several times between 1889 and 1903 for the formation of an independent community, but without success. However, Neckarhäuserhof had its own mayor until 1935.

In 1845 the Wiswesser brewery was founded, which was the largest employer in town until it was taken over by the Zorn ( Palmbräu ) brewery in Eppingen in 1939. The agriculture and timber industry, the local quarry and increasing tourism offered further employment opportunities. In 1936 there were three inns in Neckarhäuserhof out of a total of 18 houses. Shipping on the Neckar also played an important role until the first half of the 20th century. Around 1900 the place got its own school. The building, which was closed in 1980, now serves as the clubhouse of a sailing club.

Neckarhäuserhof came to Neckargemünd on January 1, 1975 as a district of the Mückenloch community.

The most important traffic route was traditionally the Neckar, which u. a. served as a means of transport for the sandstones broken in the region. In 1807 all the heads of the Neckarhäuserhof families belonged to the Neckarsteinach Nachenführer guild. In 1920 there were four independent boatmen.

ferry

A ferry, also called "Nahe" (von Nachen ), has been traceable since 1803. With the approval of the Grand Ducal Hessian government to operate a carriage ferry , such a ferry went into operation in 1812. Initially, the ferry connection between Neckarhausen and Neckarhäuserhof was only operated when required, before a ferryman was hired in 1837 and a fixed timetable was introduced. In 1853 it was replaced by a cable ferry and in 1879 by a yaw ferry . In 1952 the last six private partners from Neckarhäuserhof terminated the existing cooperative agreement and left the ferry service to the communities of Mückenloch and Neckarhausen. Since 1978 it has been sponsored by the Bergstrasse district and the city of Neckargemünd. The ferry is important as an important connection between the Baden shore (state of Baden-Württemberg ) and the S-Bahn line on the Hessian side . As a historical monument, the ferry is one of the last of its kind on the Neckar.

Road traffic

Neckarhäuserhof is connected to Mückenloch via the K 4102 district road that runs along the banks of the Neckar. Another road leads through the Finsterbachtal to Haag . There is a bus connection from Mückenloch to Neckargemünd.
