Kleingemünd is a district of Neckargemünd in the Rhein-Neckar district of Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Kleingemünd is located opposite the core town of Neckargemünd on the right bank of the Neckar, ten kilometers from Heidelberg . The district's boundaries extend from Felsenberg along the Neckar to over the Hessian border.

history

The hamlet of Kleingemünd was first mentioned in 1340 in the copy book of the knight Hans von Hirschhorn . From this source it is clear that Kleingemünd had its own local court.
A Roman tombstone found in 1770 on the grounds of the “Zum Schwanen” brewery (now the “Zum Schwanen” hotel), which probably dates from the 4th century, is evidence that there was a Roman trading station, perhaps even a shipping station, in Kleingemünd would have. Viticulture was also practiced in Kleingemünd , which is expressed in the name of the name / street name "In den Wingert" and the sandstone terraces built into the hillside, some of which are still visible to this day. Kleingemünd and Neckargemünd developed further and further apart over the centuries due to their location and size. Kleingemünd, located on the other side of the Neckar, retained the rural character typical of that time, while Neckargemünd assumed an increasingly urban character. The divergence in development inevitably led to conflicting interests between Kleingemünd and Neckargemünd, which ended in the efforts of the Kleingemünd residents to break away from Neckargemünd. The autonomy of the municipality of Kleingemünd was achieved in 1860 after several attempts, beginning in 1817. Since then, mayors have been Karl Knauf (1860–1869), Georg Friedrich Gärtner (1869–1875), Karl Knauf (1875–1895), Nicolaus Ritz (1896–1899) and Valentin Schneckenberger (1900–1906). Shortly before the reunification in Neckargemünd, the community of Kleingemünd built their new school building on the outskirts of the forest in the direction of Felsenberg for a construction cost of around 35,000 marks.
Due to the onset of industrialization at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century and the associated municipal investments all over the country, such as the construction of water pipes, sewerage and electrical lighting to supply the population as well as the construction of new local roads, the rural community was structured Kleingemünd financially overwhelmed, which is why the idea of incorporating it into Neckargemünd was considered. The community assembly of Kleingemünd agreed to the incorporation on August 1, 1904, with the stipulation that all conditions contained in the incorporation contract are met. The city council of Neckargemünd agreed to these conditions in its meeting on March 16, 1905, the citizens' committee on March 20, 1905. After a corresponding law for the dissolution of the municipality of Kleingemünd and its incorporation into Neckargemünd had been passed by the Baden state estates, the municipality of Kleingemünd was incorporated into the city of Neckargemünd with effect from January 1, 1907. Kleingemünd is the first of a total of four municipalities incorporated into the city of Neckargemünd and thus the oldest part of the city of Neckargemünd. Kleingemünd now has six members in the city council elected in 2004. In terms of the church, however, Kleingemünd always belonged to Neckargemünd.

coat of arms

In the period of independence, Kleingemünd had its own coat of arms depicting a rose. A precise reason for the choice of motif is not known and probably follows aesthetic reasons. At that time you saw the coat of arms on fire helmets, for example. Today the flags only adorn the streets on festive occasions such as the “Kleingemünder Kerwe ” or the district's summer parade. Today the coat of arms is no longer officially valid.

Attractions

  • The school in Kleingemünd was built in 1904 and used as a school until the 1930s. Afterwards it served as a residential building and as a training center for the German Red Cross, and since 2004 the building has been privately owned. Both the schoolhouse and the schoolhouse fountain opposite show the Kleingemünde coat of arms.
  • The village fountain dates from 1767 and was renovated in the 1960s.
  • The Keschdeboom (chestnut tree) in the center of the village was planted in 1977 as a replacement for the tree originally planted in 1871 to commemorate the Peace of Versailles, but lost.
  • The historic tithe barn is now used as an event room.

New development area

The planned new building area has been included in the zoning plan since 1983 . The development plan procedure was initiated for a 13-hectare sub-area on the south-facing slope with the local council's resolution of March 6, 2007. On May 19, 2009, the local council decided in a public meeting on the “Kleingemünd” development plan . This came into force with the announcement in the "Neckarboten" on June 4, 2009.

The area is framed on three sides by the existing buildings. The area comprises around a hundred parcels of various sizes. It is an area with residential, mixed and commercial building space.

The reallocation procedure for the building sites was also successfully completed with the official announcement on September 3, 2009 and the official groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 18, 2009. Parallel to the actual development work in the building area, the roundabout on the B 37 was completed. This was opened to the public on September 17, 2010 together with Kurpfalzstrasse and Montanaweg. The provisional decentralized heat supply went into operation on October 13, 2010.

The roads in the rest of the construction area were completed at the end of 2011. Almost all of the properties have now been sold. The interest was thus well above the forecasts of the developer and the Sparkasse Heidelberg. More than two thirds of the properties are already built on. The construction of a new Kleingemünd daycare center was completed in 2012. The work for the construction of a retirement home is in the final phase, as is that for various green spaces.
