Dieter Brodtmann

Dieter Brodtmann (born April 7,  1934 in Hanover ) is a German sports educator and university teacher .

Life

Brodtmann was an active athlete in athletics  and was one of the founders of the athletics department of MTV Elze in 1951.

He completed his schooling in 1954 with the Abitur . He completed a teaching degree with a focus on physical education at the University of Education in Göttingen. From 1957 to 1962 he worked in the school service (elementary school) in Northeim  and Göttingen, in 1962 he took up a position as an educational assistant in the subject of physical education at the University of Education in Göttingen. In addition to this activity, which he held until 1965, Brodtmann studied educational science, sociology and ethnology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . He completed this second degree in 1968. Since 1965 he was managing director of the conference of the universities of education in the Federal Republic of Germany and of the senate of the university of education Lower Saxony in Hanover . In 1968 Brodtmann started his work as an internship manager in the field of sport at the University of Education in Göttingen.

From 1969 to 1972 Brodtmann was a professor for didactics of physical education in the educational science department of the University of Hamburg and in 1972 he took up a professorship for physical education at the Lower Saxony University of Education in Hanover and was after the transfer of the university to the Technical University of Hanover (later at Leibniz University of Hanover renamed) worked as a professor at the Institute for Sports Science there. In 1976 he was a founding member of the German Association for Sports Science and was also involved in founding the " Zeitschrift für Sportpädagogik " (from 1979 magazine "Sportpädagogik") and was co-editor of the paper for 23 years. Brodtmann taught and researched at Leibniz University until his retirement in 2001.

One of his most important publications is the book “Sportunterricht und Schulsport. Selected Topics in Sports Didactics ”, which appeared in 1979. In addition to physical education, extra-curricular school sports (for example at sports festivals), health education, exercise games for the elderly as well as physical education and physical education in the German Democratic Republic were among his research focuses.
