Dieter Hofmann (trainer)

Dieter Hofmann (born March 12, 1941 in Altenberg ; † April 18, 2020 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German gymnastics trainer .

Hofmann was head coach of the men's team of the German Gymnastics Association in the GDR until the political change . Under his direction, she won 52 gold, silver and bronze medals at major international events. At the Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988 , the GDR squad won the silver medal in the team competition, Holger Behrendt gold on the rings and bronze on the horizontal bar, Sylvio Kroll silver on the vault and Sven Tippelt bronze on the bars and rings.

From 1991 he built a new performance center in Liestal (Switzerland).

He died in April 2020 of the lung disease COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Freiburg University Hospital .
