Dieter Horstkotte

Dieter Horstkotte (born May 4, 1951 in Minden ) is a German cardiologist and university professor . Until August 15, 2018, he was Director of the Clinic for Cardiology at the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia , Bad Oeynhausen ( University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum ).

Dieter Horstkotte studied human medicine at the University of Düsseldorf from 1971 to 1978 . In 1980 he was approved . In the period from 1980 to 1987 he successfully completed specialist training in cardiology , pulmonology and angiology , nephrology and gastroenterology . From 1987 to 1989 he headed the interdisciplinary internal intensive care unit of the medical clinic and polyclinic at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. From 1989 Horstkotte worked here as senior physician at the Clinic for Cardiology, Pneumology and Angiology, before moving to the Benjamin Franklin University Hospital in Berlin in 1994 as Senior Consultant in Cardiology and Pulmonology .

In 1995 his habilitation took place on the subject of clinical and animal experiments on microbial endocarditis. Three years later, Horstkotte received the C3 professorship for internal medicine with a focus on cardiology and pulmonology at the Free University of Berlin . From November 1998 to August 2018 Dieter Horstkotte was Director of the Clinic for Cardiology at the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia in Bad Oeynhausen .

Since 2000, Dieter Horstkotte has been a member of the "Internal Medicine, SP Cardiology" section of the Academy for Medical Training of the Westphalia-Lippe Medical Association and the Westphalia-Lippe Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians , as well as a member of the Institute for Medical and Pharmaceutical Examination Questions . He is chairman of the working group "Infection, Thrombosis, Embolism and Bleeding" of the Society for Heart Valve Disease and a member of the board of trustees of the foundation "Der Herzkranke Diabetiker". Horstkotte is a member of numerous national and international professional societies as well as co-editor of the scientific journals Clinical Research in Cardiology , Journal of Heart Valve Disease and Minerva Cardiologica .
