Dieter Klinkert

Dieter Klinkert (born June 16, 1931 in Beuthen , Upper Silesia Province ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to numerous East African countries, including Ethiopia and Tanzania .

Life

Klinkert, who was a wholesaler by profession, was active in domestic trade until 1959. From 1959 to 1963 he studied at the German Academy for Political Science and Law and completed his studies with a degree in political science.

Since 1963 Klinkert belonged to the diplomatic service of the GDR. From 1964 to 1965 he worked at the embassy in Bulgaria. From 1966 to 1968 he worked as Section Head for East Africa in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). Between 1968 and 1971 Klinkert was deputy head of the consulate in Zanzibar . He then completed postgraduate studies . From 1974 to 1977 he was deputy head of the East and Central Africa department at the MfAA. From April 1977 to 1980 he acted as the GDR ambassador in Addis Ababa . Among other things, he was responsible for intensifying development cooperation between the GDR and the socialist Ethiopia Mengistus . In October 1979, Klinkert presented 200 ZT 300–303 tractors to the country, which was plagued by drought, as a gift for its state farms. From 1980 he was again a sector manager in the MfAA. From 1984 he was ambassador of the GDR in Dar es Salaam , from 1985 also ambassador to the Seychelles , Comoros and Mauritius .
