Dieter Krause (born October 2, 1939 in Zittau ; † November 27, 2008 in Magdeburg ) was a German forensic doctor .

Life

Dieter Krause studied medicine in Leipzig and Dresden until 1963. In 1965 he received his doctorate and began his specialist training in forensic medicine at the Medical Academy in Dresden, which he finished in 1970. In 1973 he received his habilitation and in 1976 he became senior physician. He worked as a lecturer in forensic medicine from 1979. In 1983 he followed the call of the Medical Academy Magdeburg and worked there as a full professor . He took over the management of the Institute for Forensic Medicine. In 2002 he became part-time Vice Rector for Research at the University of Magdeburg for two years . Krause became chairman of the ethics committee in 1990. He held these functions until his retirement on September 30, 2007. Dieter Krause has been chairman of the German Society for Parent Assessment eV since 2001 , since 2002 chairman of the Alcohol Commission of the German Society for Forensic Medicine and also active in other specialist societies such as the International Association of Forensic Science . After his retirement on October 1, 2007, he founded a private institute under the name of "Forensic Medicine Magdeburg" , which specialized in DNA analysis . Dieter Krause died of suicide on November 27, 2008 at the age of 69.

Krause mainly dealt with post-mortem muscle physiology, determination of the time of death , sudden infant death , the alcohol-drug-road traffic problem, DNA trace analysis and parentage assessment as well as the analysis of complicated drug and drug poisoning. In 1998, his studies on grass and plant pollen from the nasal cavities of skeletons of the mass grave discovered in Magdeburg-Sudenburg in 1994 were presented in the journal Nature . Dieter Krause has published more than 300 publications, including five books, and was a sought-after reviewer in court. The analysis of mitochondria - DNA patterns carried out for the first time by him and his colleagues in a mass search test for criminals, the result of which in summer 2005 helped to solve the murder of a seven-year-old girl ten years after the crime - found international recognition . In 1999 Krause initiated a successful charity campaign for the renovation of the Magdeburg sculpture by Freiherr Eike von Repgow , legal scholar and translator of the “ Sachsenspiegel ”, which was badly damaged in World War II .
