Dieter Philipp (diplomat)

Dieter Philipp (born January 22, 1938 in Liegau-Augustusbad , today a district of Radeberg ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives .

Life

After graduating from high school, Philipp studied at the Institute for International Relations in Moscow from 1958 to 1964 . He completed his studies with a degree in political science.

He joined the diplomatic service of the GDR in 1964 and became an employee of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). In 1965/1966 he worked as an attaché at the embassy in Belgrade . From 1966 to 1968 he was Vice Consul at the Consulate General in Burma , from 1968 to 1970 he worked for the regional Bombay representation of the GDR trade agency in India . Between 1972 and 1974 he served as Second Secretary at the Embassy in Dhaka (Bangladesh). From 1975 to 1978 he was Sector Manager for Pakistan and Bangladesh in the MfAA. From 1978 to 1981 he was counselor and deputy head of the embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli . From September 1981 he was ambassador of the GDR in Colombo and from January 1982 also ambassador to the Maldives. In July 1986 it was adopted. From 1987 to 1990 he worked again as a sector manager for India and Nepal in the South and Southeast Asia department of the MfAA.

Philipp was a member of the SED .
