Dieter Soika

Dieter Soika (* 1949 in Rheinhausen ) is a German journalist .

Life

Dieter Soika was already a freelance student for various newspapers (including WAZ and Bild ) and radio stations. After graduating from high school in Rheinhausen, he studied journalism , sociology and folklore at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster from 1969 to 1973 . After completing an internship at the Rheinische Post in Düsseldorf, he worked from 1974 to 1978 initially as an editor for the news, business and local areas of this newspaper, and from 1979 to 1981 for the Neue Ruhr Zeitung (NRZ) in Essen. From 1981 to 1988 he was editor-in-chief of the Offenburger Tageblatt , then moved to Westfalenpost in Hagen, where he was also editor-in-chief from 1988 to 1997. From January 1, 1998, he was editor-in-chief of the Free Press in Chemnitz, the regional newspaper with the highest circulation in East Germany. Soika, who is considered an innovator in local journalism, introduced a newsroom there early on . However, the employment relationship was terminated on February 18, 2008 due to differences over the editorial concept.

Dieter Soika is also a lecturer for editorial management at the University of Leipzig . He is married and has two grown children.
