Dieter Stellmacher

Dieter Stellmacher (born May 3, 1939 in Klosterheide ) is a German philologist and university professor .

Live and act

Stellmacher studied German , Dutch and Slavic studies in Leipzig from 1959 to 1964 . After receiving his doctorate in 1968, he was a German lecturer in Finland from 1969 to 1971 . In 1975 he completed his habilitation in Marburg . He was then a professor in Gießen and from 1976 in Göttingen at the Department of German Philology - Low German Language and Literature. In 1982 Stellmacher took over the management of the Lower Saxony Dictionary ; since 1976 he has been a member of the advisory board with direct scientific responsibility. Stellmacher has been chairman of the Ostfälisches Institut since 1994 . From 1998 to 2006 he was chairman of the International Society of Dialectologists .

He has been retired since 2005. The chair for Low German was not filled again.

In 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Krasnoyarsk University .
