Dietrich-Jürgen Manske
Dietrich-Jürgen Manske (often also listed as Dietrich Jürgen Manske , born April 21, 1937 in Eberswalde ; † May 28, 2019 in Altenthann (Upper Palatinate) ) was a German geographer and local history researcher .
Life
Manske came from Eberswalde near Berlin. Manske spent his youth in Neunburg vorm Wald . After graduating from high school in Cham , he studied geography at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . In 1966 he received his doctorate with a thesis on The Schwarzachbergland . After receiving his doctorate, Manske first worked at the University of Erlangen.
In 1968 he became a research assistant at the Chair of Geography in the Department of History, Society and Politics of the Philosophical Faculty at the University of Regensburg . His main contributions consisted in developing the subject of cultural geography . In 1983, after his habilitation, he received the license to teach geography. From 1984 he was a professor of regional geography .
Manske was a co-founder and long-time editor of the Regensburg Geographical Writings and co-editor of the Regensburg articles on regional geography and spatial planning . As an expert he was involved in the design of the Upper Palatinate North planning region. In 2002 Manske retired.

Manske was married to Agnes Manske. The couple had 3 children. The family initially lived in Erlangen, then in Regensburg, Burgweinting and finally in Altenthann.
Social Commitment
From 1993 to 1996 Manske was chairman of the CSU local association Altenthann. Manske worked in the regional studies group in East Bavaria.
