Dietrich Papsch

Dietrich Papsch (born March 27, 1938 in Schmalkalden ) is a German environmental activist and book author .

Life

Dietrich Papsch has been closely associated with the Eastern Ore Mountains for over fifteen years . After an apprenticeship as a toolmaker , he studied mechanical engineering and then worked in companies and facilities for heavy machinery and plant construction in the GDR . After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, he became a consultant at the Treuhandanstalt Berlin and in 1992 switched to Deutsche Waggonbau AG (from 1998 a Bombardier Transportation company ), where he worked until his retirement in 2003.

He has been involved in the environmental movement since the turning point .

Papsch has been a pensioner since August 2003. For more than 15 years, from 2000 to 2015, he was chairman of Energie-Tisch Altenberg eV , which is committed to an energy transition towards renewable energies in the region of the Eastern Ore Mountains. He was a member of the citizens' initiative Livable Erzgebirge - Heimat received , which campaigned against transit traffic on the B 170 , is a member of Attac and regional environmental associations such as the Green League Osterzgebirge and was also on the board of the German Child Protection Association, Regionalverband Weißeritzkreis, for several years . Since the wave of refugees in 2015, he has been campaigning for refugees' right to stay, their recognition and the integration of refugees in his region. Since 2004 he has also devoted himself to painting and drawing in his spare time, primarily of landscapes, trees and people. From 2004 to 2015 he attended the art course "KUKUK" of the art historian and painter Dr. Reimar Börnicke in Kipsdorf / City of Altenberg. He also attended summer painting courses by the Lauenstein artist Carsten Watol and, since 2017, his courses at the "ZBBB" Pirna. He also takes part in exhibitions with his pictures.

At the beginning of 2018, Dietrich Papsch, with 15 volunteers and with the support of a local association in his hometown in a municipal house, redesigned four rooms that had been vacant since 2015 (formerly a restaurant and local administration) into a gallery, with well-known and regional artists, after approval by the authorities and artisans present their works and the main room is also intended for monthly events. The gallery and the local history museum, which has existed since 1993, were opened in a festive setting on May 26, 2018 and have been well attended during the opening times since then. Both objects are run on a voluntary basis with the volunteers and in cooperation with the Schellerhauer Heimatverein eV. Since their opening, the gallery and museum have increasingly become a meeting place for people from the region, from Germany and from abroad. Opening times: Sundays 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and by appointment

Papsch has also been working as a book author since 2005 and has since published five non-fiction books and several brochures on relevant topics through publishers and held many readings in Saxony, Thuringia and Berlin as well as at the Leipzig Book Fair.
