Dietrich Quanz

Dietrich Reiner Quanz (born April 10, 1937 in Hirschberg ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Quanz was born in Lower Silesia and grew up as the son of expellees in Biberach . He ran athletics  at TG Neuss and TSV 04 Leverkusen . He passed the Abitur at the Quirinus Gymnasium in Neuss and then studied German, philosophy, education and sport at the University of Cologne . From 1961 Quanz worked as an athletics teacher at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS). At the DSHS he also worked with Carl Diemtogether. At the University of Cologne he obtained his doctorate at the Philosophical Faculty and was then employed at the Sports University as a lecturer for pedagogical theory of sport.

In 1975 he took up a professorship for sports didactics at the sports university and took over the management of the institute for sports didactics. He held these offices until he retired in 2002. From 1982 to 1987 Quanz was rector of the German Sport University.

From 1985 he was a member of the National Olympic Committee for Germany , from 1985 to 1989 he sat on the board of the German Association for Sports Science . Another office of Quanz was, among other things, membership in the grassroots sport development committee of the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia .

In his research, he dealt intensively with the topic of school sport and wrote textbooks for physical education. Other key topics were sports clubs and associations as well as the Olympic movement in Germany.

Quanz is the author of “100 Years of Golf in Germany”, the four volumes were published in 2007. He headed the project of creating a chronicle of golf in Bavaria on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bavarian Golf Association.

In 2004 he was awarded the Silver Medal of the German Sport University Cologne .
