The Dietrichsburg is an abandoned early castle complex below the Großer Kornberg in the Upper Franconian district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge , the location of which has not been clearly clarified.
In a deed of sale from the savages to the burgraves of Nuremberg from 1356, the so-called Dietrichsburg (as Dyetrichspurg ) is mentioned in a list of the property:
“(...) Then to Hagenbůch, Zwendorn, Dyetrichspurg, průnn, Spilberg, Leukin here dissit der Eger, against the Ekpdrehstein warts, Reynbotengruen and Sloeppin prevent half of them, with interest, with fiefs and with all rights; (...) "
This documentary mention contrasts with possible locations of castle stables, whose original names have not been passed down due to their pre-documentary significance. Due to the property sold in 1356, theories on allocation are limited to the Großwendern castle stables (also called Steinelburg) and the area around Niederlamitz , Karl Dietel made the connection. In Niederlamitz there was a moated castle that was later used as a hammer mill and was finally dismantled in 1880. Johannes Foerderreuther names the hammer owner Nicol Dietrich the elder as the namesake. In his inventory of the district, Bernhard Hermann Röttger also assumes the hammer mill as the location of the Dietrichsburg. In search of the historical origins of the place, Herbert Biedermann locates the Dietrichsburg as another moated castle in Niederlamitz, at a point where several farms (Benker, Medik, Riedel, Stöhr) are today.
