Dimensión Latina
La Dimensión Latina is a salsa band from Venezuela .
Career
The group was founded on March 15, 1972 in the “La Distinción” brewery in Caracas by Oscar D'León , César “Albóndiga” Monge, José “Joseíto” Rodríguez, José Antonio Rojas and Elio Pacheco y Jesús “Chuito” Narváez. Their first record in 1972 "El Clan de Víctor y Dimensión Latina" was a recording with the group Clan de Víctor . Oscar D'León sang her first hit "Pensando en ti". In 1973 Dimensión Latina took part in numerous events such as the Carnaval de Maracaibo after the release of her album “Triunfadores”part. In 1974 the bolero musician Wladimir Lozano joined Dimensión Latina and they had their first international successes. The album Dimensión Latina 75 had numerous hits like "Taboga", "Llorarás", "Parampampam", "La Vela" and "Cañonazo" and made them known worldwide in the salsa scene. At that time, New York City was experiencing a real salsa boom. The success of Dimensión Latina was also continued with titles like “Dolor cobarde”, “El Frutero” and “Dormir contigo”. In 1977 they produced “La Dimensión Latina en Nueva York”, this year Oscar D'León left the band and began his solo career. After D'León left the band, the Puerto Rican singer Andy Montañez , formerly lead singer of El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico , joined the band and started a new era. In November 1977 Dimensión Latina played at the Salsa International Festival in New York's Madison Square Garden . With Andy Montañez they recorded a total of eight records with hits such as "El Eco De Un Tambó", "Linda Minerva", "Ave Maria Lola", "Cantante Errante" and "Quisiera Saber". 1980 Montañez left the group again. In the 1990s, the combo had varying successes and a different line-up. On July 24, 2003, the group was honored as Patrimonio Histórico Cultural de Caracas by the City of Caracas for their great commitment to Caribbean music.
