Dion Welton

Dion Welton (* 1963 ) is a former American - German basketball player .

career

Welton, a 1.85 meter tall, from Marion , Indiana native, was a member of the college team at West Chester University in the state of Pennsylvania in the 1981/82 season . In ten games of the season he scored an average of 0.8 points per game. He then played until 1986 at St. Thomas University in Miami (State of Florida ).

Thanks to his German ancestry, Welton, who had German citizenship, moved to BG Steiner-Optik Bayreuth in the German basketball league at the beginning of 1987 . In the 1987/88 season Welton played for the Mississippi Jets in the US league Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He played 27 games for the team. Donald Mason and Derrick Taylor were also on the line-up for the jets overseen by Tom Schneeman .

Welton, owner of a consulting and marketing company, was arrested in June 2009. In February 2010, he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for fraudulent business practices. He was released after about two and a half years. While in custody, Welton turned to the Christian faith, wrote a book about it and founded a religious movement. After his release, he worked as a lecturer and radio presenter for religious topics. In March 2019 Welton was arrested in the state of Georgia , he had previously been put on a wanted list because he was accused of fraud, among other things.
