Dionisio García Ibáñez

Dionisio Guillermo García Ibáñez (born January 31, 1945 in Guantánamo ) is Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba .

Life

The Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba, Pedro Meurice , ordained him a priest on July 8, 1985 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on December 9, 1995 as the first bishop of the diocese of Santísimo Salvador de Bayamo y Manzanillo , which was established on the same date . Archbishop Meurice gave him episcopal ordination on January 27 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Carlos Jesús Patricio Baladrón Valdés , auxiliary bishop in San Cristóbal de la Habana , and José Siro González Bacallao , bishop of Pinar del Río . As a motto he chose Tu brazo me sostiene .

He was appointed Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba on February 10, 2007 and was introduced to the office on February 24 of the same year.

In 2009 he was first elected chairman of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Cuba and was confirmed in this position in the next election in November 2013.
