Dirk Glaser (born June 9, 1958 in Bochum ) is a German journalist , book author, presenter and managing director. He has been the non-party mayor of the city of Hattingen / Ruhr since October 21, 2015 .

Life

Dirk Glaser grew up in Hattingen, Düsseldorf and Solothurn (Switzerland). After graduating from high school (1979) at Holthausen School Center , he lived in Toronto and Los Angeles for a year . After his stay abroad, Glaser studied sinology and journalism in his native Bochum and Munich . As a freelance journalist, author and presenter, Dirk Glaser has worked for numerous public broadcasters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland since the beginning of 1980. He was employed as a radio presenter at WDR from 1987 to 2000. From 1994 to 2008 Glaser moderated the local timeSouth Westphalia . During this time numerous contributions were made as an author, director and producer for public television. From 2008 to 2014 Dirk Glaser was the managing director of Südwestfalen Agentur GmbH based in Olpe , which headed the Regionale 2013 .

Dirk Glaser ran as a non-party candidate for the mayoral election in Hattingen in 2015, supported by the CDU, the Greens and Free Democrats. Glaser won the mayoral election with 58.38% of the vote and was sworn in as the new mayor of the city of Hattingen on October 22, 2015.

In 2005 he published his first book Gipfelsturm together with Matthias Jeschke .

Voluntary and civic engagement

Glaser is Honorary Curator of the Academy for Medium-Sized Enterprises at the University of Siegen , he was a board member of Sauerland Tourismus eV (2009-2014), member of the Lions Club Hattingen (President 2014/15) and supporting member of Hattingen City Marketing.
