Dirk Harms (* 1963 in Pretoria ) is a South African- German sculptor and doctor .

Live and act

Dirk Harms was born in Pretoria in South Africa. According to his own statements, he grew up privileged in his mother's South African-German family. The family lived with and from art . He started sculpting in high school . The first own exhibitions followed from 1982 in Bloemfontein , Cape Town and Windhoek ( Namibia ).

Dirk Harms studied human medicine at the University of the Orange Free State in Bloemfontein. After completing his studies, he went to Europe and initially lived from art from 1989 to 1990. He worked on Lake Constance , in Salzburg and Stuttgart and had an exhibition in Soest . In the following years he commuted between South Africa and Germany before finally moving to Germany in 1993. He passed his German medical license in Berlin . From 1994 he ran a practice as a family doctor in Brandenburg an der Havel . In 2008 Harms became the medical director of Specialized Outpatient Palliative Care (SAPV) in Brandenburg an der Havel. He gave up his practice license in 2014. In parallel to his medical work, Dirk Harms continues to work artistically.
