Dirk Rothbrust

Dirk Rothbrust (* 1968 in Illingen ) is a German percussionist and composer who has made a name for himself in the fields of new music and improvised music .

Live and act

Rothbrust discovered drums for himself at the age of eleven . After school in the wind orchestra of his birthplace and (influenced by Frank Zappa ) in rock bands, he oriented himself strongly to classical music. From 1986 to 1994 he studied at the music academies in Saarbrücken and Karlsruhe with Franz Lang and Isao Nakamura, among others. He expanded the classic percussion to include styrofoam plates, house plants, stones and ethno-musical sound generators.

In 1995 he became a member of the Schlagquartett Köln , in which he devoted himself to new music. He also worked with Lauren Newton and in the Multiple Joy (ce) Orchestra . Since 2006 he has been a permanent member of the ensemble musikFabrik , with which he has participated in numerous productions. Rebecca Saunders and Enno Poppe wrote pieces for him. Together with Pierre-Laurent Aimard , he interpreted Stockhausen's contacts several times . He can also be heard on albums by Barbara Buchholz and Marcus Schmickler and has composed for radio drama and theater.
