Dirk Wagner

Dirk Wagner (born August 28, 1971 in Greiz ) is a table tennis trainer who worked from 2016 to 2019 at the TTC Grenzau as a trainer and sports director. From July 2010 to 2016 he worked as head coach at the Werner Schlager Academy . From July 1, 2006 to June 2010, he was the full-time head coach at Bundesliga club Borussia Düsseldorf .

Life

Even his childhood was shaped by the sporting influences of his family. His father Klaus was a cycling trainer, his sister Doreen a good athlete. Wagner himself was active as a gymnast and athlete and initially only played table tennis as a hobby. He began his coaching activity in his home club in Elsterberg. He later got involved with Post SV Zeulenroda until the Thuringian Table Tennis Association hired him as a full-time support and association trainer in April 1994. Here he worked for almost 10 years in the development of competitive sports structures in the state of Thuringia. In addition, he gained experience as an assistant trainer for the national school team and the central talent scouting of the German Table Tennis Association. In summer 2004 he started working for the Bundesliga club Borussia Düsseldorf. There he initially worked as an assistant coach for 2 years and later as head coach until summer 2010. He was able to celebrate numerous successes of his athletes at national and international level. During this period, he accompanied the development of athletes like Christian Süß, Seyha Kishikawa and Jun Mizutani. On July 15, 2005, he married Olga. They have two children together.

Coaching work

At the German Table Tennis Association, Dirk Wagner is primarily active in talent scouting and youth work as a freelance trainer. In addition, together with Mario Amizic, he runs the federal base in Düsseldorf , where Christian Süß trains among others . As a Düsseldorf coach, he continued to be supported by Andreas Preuss, who now takes on the role of manager, but was clearly the head of the coaching staff. His contract was not extended until July 1, 2010, he was replaced by the Dutchman Danny Heister . Since summer 2010, Wagner has been working as head coach at the Werner Schlager Academy in Schwechat, in 2016 he was hired by the TTC Grenzau as a trainer and sports director, where he stayed until 2019.
