Divača ( Italian Divaccia , German  Waatsche ) is a small municipality in Slovenia .

geography

The municipality is located in the south-western part of the country - a few kilometers from the Italian border and the port city of Trieste . The district of Škocjan, in which the Škocjan Caves are located, belongs to the municipality . It has around 3,900 inhabitants.

Divača railway station

Divača is a railway junction. Here ends the railway line Divača-Pula in the railway field-Strasbourg-Trieste Centrale , the old Austrian Southern Railway.

A serious railway accident occurred in Divača station on July 14, 1984 : an express train to Koper and Pula with around 1,400 holidaymakers had stopped here. A freight train followed him . Its locomotive driver ran over two signals showing "Stop" and hit the stationary train at around 65 km / h. The last three cars on the express train were badly damaged and 31 people died.

Culture

Traditional farmhouse

The “Škratelj Hof” in Divača is worth seeing. The farmhouse, built in the 17th century, houses a permanent exhibition about the famous actress Ita Rina .
