Do they know it's Europe is a multilingual music video by Comedians for Worldpeace that was released on May 22, 2019 under unusual circumstances.

Participating in the video were moderators of popular satirical and humorous late-night formats from various EU countries as well as Switzerland , Norway and Armenia . A similar, transnational collaboration of satirical TV shows already existed in 2017 with the Every Second Counts competition .

The video is available in both a five-minute short version and a long version of 13 minutes. The song that can be heard in the video is first and foremost a pro-European game with our own country clichés, linked by the common understanding that “we are alone”. The title Do they know it's Europe is based on the benefit song Do They Know It's Christmas? of the Band Aid group . Each of the twenty artists from sixteen countries sings in their own language, subtitles are available.

The comments belonging to the video make it clear that the creators want it to be concretely understood as a call to participate in the upcoming 2019 European elections .

Publication circumstances

In the course of the Ibiza affair , there were suspicions that the release date, which Böhmermann had announced with a countdown on the Internet, would be further revelations or at least the question "what role (...) Mr. Böhmermann plays in this context" ( Heinz -Christian Strache in the wording of his resignation speech ). As a result, the release date of the music video received the greatest attention from international media as well as social networks, although Böhmermann's house broadcaster ZDF felt compelled in advance to rule out speculation about new Strache revelations according to its own knowledge.
