history
The ship was built in 1848 by the Dreyer shipyard on the Elbe island of Neuhof am Reiherstieg . The owner of the Dockenhuden was the trading house Joh. Ces. Godeffroy & Sohn under the direction of the Hamburg merchant Johan Cesar Godeffroy The bar was named after the Holstein community of Dockenhuden , where JC Godeffroy lived in a country house.
The ship was used to transport emigrants from Hamburg to Australia and South America . On the morning of December 29, 1852, an accident occurred on a trip from Hamburg to Melbourne off the English coast. The barque was rammed by an English full ship . The Dockenhuden was badly damaged, but was able to reach the port of Plymouth , where the ship was repaired. On August 7, 1853, cleared from Melbourne to Batavia , the Dockenhuden stranded on the Catoriff. The crew managed to save themselves and use the dinghies to reach Moreton Bay . The wreck was sold at auction for a guinea in September 1853 .
Captains
The skipper of the barque was Captain Joh. Meyer (1848–51) and Captain Jac. Meyer (1851-53). The change of command took place in Australia in February or March 1851.
Rides
With the Dockenhuden trips were made from Hamburg to the area around Australia and South America.
